6/20/89: Gordon Satoshi
My shift ends in about 30 minutes and I feel like boredom is making blood come out of my ears. I checked though, and I think the blood coming from my ears is from wearing this mask for the entirety of 15 hour shift, but it goes really well with my outfit, so I think it's worth it.
A customer, I can hear the clinking and clanking of whatever armor and weapons they brought down here to die in stop right outside the vending machine door, their clunky fingies plugging away at the touch screen. Pull up my phone, Kill-Net's shoplink notification comes up.
Tap.
Kill-Net Admin App opens up. Waiting for the customer to complete their order.
"Hey, you in there?"
I stay quiet. Every once in a while someone spills the beans that I sit in here all day. It's become sort of a myth, that there's a girl in the Buy or Die vending machine. It's such a silly concept that most people don't believe it, and I like keeping it that way. Around now usually the customer feels stupid and stays quiet, but:
"I know you're in there. Do you remember Satoshi Jones? "
"Yes." I don't.
"You killed him when he failed to return his rental, right?"
"Probably. But I might have found him dead when I came to reclaim it after his rental was up. Why?"
"You killed my brother because his rental was up?"
"Those are the rules, I don't make em'."
"So you're just Kill-Net's Assassin? Do they pay you extra to kill innocent people?"
"Are you going to finish your order or what?"
A brief silence, and then "Will you come after me if my time runs out and I haven't returned my rental?"
"Yes."
"Then I'll be able to fight you face to face. Get vengence for my brother."
"Sure."
"What should I order to kill you with?"
"The Krishna Kris is pretty good, I don't really have a defense against holy damage, and knives freak me out."
A notification on the Kill-Net app: GORDON SATOSHI HAS ORDERED THE [KRISHNA KRIS]
I get up and rotate the rack opposite me until I get the the 'K' section. Find the Knife. Put it in the slot. I can just imagine the dry ice smoke push out of the front of the machine and present the knife to Gordon in that microwave-lookin' door. I can hear the him open the door, can tell he takes the knife from the clanking of the metal on the glass plate, and close it again.
"How long do I have to wait for you to come after me?"
"What's your rental say?"
"...4 hours."
"So 4 hours."
"Where's my brother's body?"
"Down in Siren's Grove on the 5th floor of the sunken Hospital in District G."
"Thanks. See you there."
"See ya."
